LANAO DEL SUR, Philippines – The remains of two of six sawmill workers kidnapped by suspected militants in Butig, Lanao del Sur last week were recovered yesterday.
Police found the headless bodies of siblings Salvador and Jaymart Janobas in Barangay Bayabao, said Col. Roseller Murillo, commander of the Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade.
“Their severed heads were found in another spot,” Murillo said.
Four other sawmill operators – Julieto Janobas, Alfredo Anoos, Gabriel Permites and Adones Mendez – were released upon the intercession of local officials early this week.
The kidnappers were led by the Maute brothers, who reportedly have links with the regional terror group Jemaah Islamiyah. They reportedly demanded a P20-million ransom for the release of the beheaded victims.
