The Chrism mass is celebrated on Maundy Thursday and manifests the unity between the bishop and priests of the diocese. Tagle emphasized the importance of living with Christ and reminded church goers that everyone has been anointed by the spirit, just like Christ. He lamented however that these days, people are drawn to other types of spirit, that of jealousy and greed. He exemplifies this through the recent $81 million money laundering issue. “We rejoice in technology but also, technology becomes a tool to steal $81 million from a poor country,” he said. He also asked church goers as to what kind of spirit will prevail in them come election day. “Decency, real service, or will we allow ourselves to be dominated by other spirits?” Tagle asked. Tagle also reminded the faithful on the importance of patience, saying that this is a sign of faith and trust. When dealing with everyday issues, Tagle explained that people tend to listen and indulge in the wisdom of others. He then questioned if in the same way, people listened to Jesus. After his homily, Tagle led priests in the renewal of their commitment to priestly service. He also blessed the Chrism oil, which will be used in the administration of sacraments throughout the diocese for the year.
